App Store screenshot dimensions and decorative device mockups are related, but they are not the same requirement. Apple validates the exported image dimensions and format. A phone frame placed inside that image is a marketing choice.
Use Apple's accepted screenshot dimensions
Apple's current 6.9-inch display group includes several accepted portrait and landscape sizes for devices such as iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Check the live App Store Connect screenshot specifications before exporting because accepted device groups can change.
A device frame is optional presentation
You can show a raw interface, place it inside a realistic phone, or use a neutral clay frame. Choose the treatment that makes the product easiest to understand. The frame should support the screenshot rather than consume most of the available canvas.
Device-frame review checklist
- Confirm the frame does not cover important controls or interface text.
- Use one frame style and color consistently across the set.
- Keep the interface large enough to read in the store preview.
- Export at an accepted screenshot size rather than the physical screen resolution alone.
